CONSUMER FEEDBACK REGARDING RV EDUCATION 101 PRODUCTS
"Hi Dawn, We took our "brand new" used class c out for the first time this weekend and managed to find the Class C DVD at Walmart. I'm looking forward to reviewing it now that our "maiden voyage" with our 2&1/2 and 4&1/2 yr old boys has been survived. It's too bad that we found it on the way home but I know it'll come in handy."

QUOTE OF THE MONTH
"It's all to do with the training: you can do a lot if you're properly trained." ~ Elizabeth II, Queen of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (b. 1926). Television documentary, BBC1, 6 Feb. 1992.

EDITORIAL BY MARK

Hi everybody,
Well our first RV trip of the season went off without a hitch. Although it was a short trip we had a great time. I can't really explain it, but when we leave for a trip in the RV it feels as though a weight has been lifted from my shoulders. All is right with everything. I guess that's what I enjoy about RVing; no deadlines, no stress, no worries and no phones, (believe it or not I don't have a cell phone, Dawn does!) We do transfer our business line to the cell phone when we travel in the RV, but even work seems different when you do it from the RV, as opposed to the office. Eventually you have to return home. Its sad when you park the motorhome and return back to our daily life as we know it, but what helps you get through is thinking about the next time you load up the RV and head out the driveway on another RV adventure.

Side note: We traveled a little over 200 miles round trip and used a little less than half tank of fuel. Probably about $100 to $115 in fuel, $60 for the campground and spent 3 fun-filled days, less than two blocks away from the beach. Not bad huh?

Lorrin Walsh, author of Drive your Motorhome Like a Pro, and his wife Nyla, made the trip from Washington State to North Carolina to finish filming our new DVD titled, (you guessed it) Drive your Motorhome Like a Pro. Lorrin is a professional driver and I was amazed at how much I learned while we were filming. I thought I knew a lot about driving large vehicles; I mean I drove everything from HMMWV's (Hummers) to tanks in the military! But it's like Lorrin said when he first attended professional driving school: "I considered myself a skilled driver after many years of motorhome experience, but when I went to work for Gray Line of Seatlle and went through their training course I realized how much I didn't know and how much I knew but didn't understand."

I couldn't have worded it any better, I thought I was a skilled driver and knew a lot, but was surprised at how much I didn't understand about the mechanics of driving a large vehicle. I can honestly say that anybody, with the exception of a professionally trained driver, will benefit from this driving video. We had a great time filming it and we just sent it off for replication. We will send out an e-mail alert to notify you when it is available. If you just can't wait, the INSTANT download version of Drive Your Motorhome Like a Pro video is available NOW.

Be sure and check out our video clip of the month below for a short excerpt from the Drive your Motorhome Like a Pro video.

I hope you enjoy the newsletter
Until next month Happy Camping!

RVING WITH MARK POLK ~ Feature Article: Turn the Air on!

Campgrounds across the country have something in common around this time every year. Not only are many of them filled to capacity, but they are trying to keep up with the high demand for electricity. The heat is on and so are the air conditioners. The familiar humming sound of air conditioners can be heard day and night throughout the tranquil campground setting. .....

LOCK YOUR DOORS
by Peggi McDonald, Author of RV Living in the 21st Century

Always lock RV doors when you're away. It's easy to let your guard down in a comfortable campground. You only plan to step out for a short visit or to the clubhouse. You're certain your new friends would not intrude on your property. However, there may be a visitor (or a stranger) in the park who doesn't respect the property of others. And, remember, the only secure lock on your RV door is the dead bolt. The lock in the door handle is frequently opened and closed with a master key — many RV manufacturers use this same lock in a variety models. My storage department lock will open the locks of most other RV storage doors. Keeping valuables in these areas is not wise without upgrading the locks.

About RV LIVING IN THE 21ST CENTURY
This book is for the new or experienced RVer. There are so many tips from “how to” subjects as well as practical advice on "what to do" when you have medical problems on the road, and how to choose an emergency roadside service. The security tips for your house while you are away and health & safety tips are just a couple of subjects out of many that are invaluable and give you peace of mind! There is so much information we couldn't possibly list it all. RV Education 101 highly recommends this book: RV Living in the 21st Century

Arm Yourself with Qualified RV Buying Information, Before you Buy Your RV! ....
Q: How important is it that an RV Dealer have a service department?

Mark Says: It is important to make sure the dealership you buy from has the capability and facilities to do routine maintenance and warranty work on the units they sell. You wouldn’t buy a new automobile from a dealership without a service department and RV’s should be no different. You will need to have routine maintenance and warranty work done on your RV.

Ask the salesperson to show you the maintenance facilities and to introduce you to the service writer if they haven’t already done so. Ask them if they have certified RV technicians and how long their service department personnel have been employed by the dealership. Long term employment and certified technicians are other indications of a reputable RV dealership.

RV Q & A by Mark Polk

*NOTE: At Mark's discretion, material might be edited to suit a wide audience. Due to the large volume of material and correspondence we receive, individual replies might not be possible, nor can we acknowledge receipt of submitted material. Selected questions will be answered in future issues of our RV Education 101 newsletter and on our site. Thank-you for your understanding.

Q.1. Hi, There seems to be water dripping under my trailer. I have opened all the panels and can't find water anywhere. It drips in the low corner and upon examination under the trailer the insulation is wet. The leak seems to be between the toilet and the water heater. Can't find a way to get under it without ripping the plastic off and pulling the insulation out, which I really don't want to do? It is a 1993 wilderness. I would appreciate any information. thank you

Q.2. Good day, We just purchased a new travel trailer. What is your opinion/suggestion on two awning questions please.
1) should I buy and use de-flappers
2) should I buy and use tie-out straps and stakes

It is a 19' travel trailer with a 12' awning.

Q.3. I was researching RV information and came across your site. Please advise what book would be helpful to us. We have had a pop-up for the past 8 years and just recently upgraded to a 30' travel trailer. We are concerned about the toilet -- we have never had holding tanks -- I have heard night mare stories of the black water tank getting clogged. We have put the chemical that is recommended -- however if you look into the toilet -- it looks like the paper is not going into the tank -- and we have bought the bio degradable tp that was recommended.

Please advise which book would be the most helpful to someone who has just moved up to travel trailer.

General and Unsubscribe Info

About us:

Our goal with this monthly newsletter is to provide you with helpful information to make all of your RV experiences more enjoyable. I left my position as an RV Sales and F&I manager in 2000 to start my own company, RV Education 101. We produce educational videos, DVDs and e-books on how to use and maintain your RV. The reason I left my job was due to my concern about the lack of educational and safety awareness material available to the RV consumer, in other words, you. We are a small company. My wife Dawn left her position in RV sales to help start the company and is our Sales and Marketing Director. We currently have a 35-foot Class A motor home. We have two boys, Tyler 11 and Josh 17, both avid RVers and two dogs, Gracie and Buck. Gracie is the good one.
