Hi Everybody,
May of 2007 marked a major milestone for RV Education 101 products. Between our own product offering of videos, e-books, instant video downloads and the RV Book, over 80,000 RV Education 101 products have assisted RVer's in learning how to use and maintain their RV's. This is a long way from producing our first title on VHS over seven years ago. We currently have eleven DVD titles, nine e-books, and The RV Book in our RV training library. I would like to personally thank each and every one of you, our loyal customers, for making RV Education 101 a success, and we will strive to continue meeting all of your RV education needs in the future. Our goal has always been a simple one; to make all of your RV experiences safe, fun and stress free.
To celebrate this goal of educating the RV consumer we will give our number one selling e-book, Checklists for RVers, to every customer who orders an RV Education 101 product through midnight of 15 June 2007. In this fortieth issue of our monthly newsletter we want the theme to be educating RVers. In addition to our regular monthly features we are including the six most viewed video tips and six of my most read articles for the month of May.
Our two latest DVD titles are back from the replication company (FINALLY) and ready to go: RV Care & Maintenance and Deep Cycle Battery Care & Maintenance (which also applies to boats!) were the two most requested titles for the month of May. For those of you who pre-ordered the DVD's they are in the mail and should be arriving at your doorstep within a couple of days, if you haven't already received them.
As many of you already know I am an advocate for educating RV consumers on the topic of weights and towing safety issues. I have been watching some of the television advertisements about half-ton trucks with 11,000 pound tow ratings, and to be honest with you I was a bit concerned. My 3/4 ton truck is only rated to tow 8,800 pounds! Anyway I found a glitch with the truck manufacturers tow rating claim and questioned them about it. It took quite a while to get a response back from them, but I finally did. Q:I just subscribed to your newsletter, hoping for some helpful info as I get re-involved with motor homing. I sold my 24' class C and am shopping for something newer and more efficient, also larger. I'm tending toward the Class B+ Phoenix Cruiser, 27' with 2 slides. It comes as either gasoline or diesel. I've been told the additional cost for a diesel engine outweighs any gas mileage benefit unless you keep the rig for many years. But I also wonder if other things have been factored in, such as, cost of engine maintenance, cost differential for the fuel type (as gasoline prices rise, will diesel rise at the same rate, slower, faster? What about bio diesel? Is there a re-sale advantage to either one?
I haven't found a discussion of these issues anywhere yet. The dealer I've been working with just gave me the answer above... not cost-effective unless kept for many years.
I'm an older, single woman, wanting to do some touring with my dog for the next 2 years or so. I'm expecting various friends to link up for certain legs of the trip. I will appreciate good guidance. A:Gas versus diesel is an age old discussion and one that often times gets heated. If asked this question several years ago I would have responded similar to the salesperson, because the cost difference was quite significant. Tody's RV's offer many gasoline models in the same price range as many diesel products. Mainly due to advances in the chassis itself driving the prices upward.
What I can tell you is a diesel will last longer that a gasoline engine so if you plan to keep the RV for a good amount of time it would be worth the investment. I have no idea what is going to happen with the types of fuel or the cost comparison between gas and diesel.
Maintenance wise it used to be that a diesel required less, keeping in mind there are more filters etc. on a diesel, but nowadays gas engines can go upwards of 100,000 before a tune up, with nothing more than routine oil changes, air filters etc.
This probably doesn't help much. If you want some other peoples opinions I recommend you go to the open roads forum and post this same question in the appropriate forum. You are sure to get many responses.

Personal Injury Protection (PIP) is also known as “No-Fault Coverage” and can be a first or third party coverage. This is a statutory coverage that is only available in some states and provides protection for injuries sustained in an accident regardless of fault. In a true no-fault state your insurer pays for your injuries, and the other party’s insurer pays for their injuries regardless of who is at-fault. PIP benefits are state mandated and can include medical expenses, lost wages, funeral expenses and substitute services. If you live in a PIP state, you should consult your insurance agent or the department of insurance for more information on the PIP options and rules that pertain to your state.
Note: The Department of Insurance in the state you live in can be an excellent resource for additional information regarding state specific coverage’s. Most states offer a Consumer Buyer’s Guide on their website that will explain state specific nuances to each of these coverage’s.

TRUCK STOPS AND REST AREAS
Many RVers like the freedom to roam and stop on a whim.
A choice for free stopping spot is at truck stops and/or
travel centers. Many of these areas include separate RV
parking, RV islands for gas, fuel, air, water dump, etc.,
gas/fuel/propane discounts, restaurants, vehicle service,
showers and much more. Flying J is the best known but
others such as Rip Griffin centers and TA (Truck Stops of
America) encourage RVers to stop for the night. Look for
a spot slightly away from big rig trucks with noisy
reefers to enjoy a good, safe night's sleep.
One 'DON'T' is to never stop overnight at highway rest areas. These places are not secure and frequently there are only a few vehicles in the area at any one time. Being safe is the name of the game.

I left my position as an RV Sales and F&I manager in 2000 to start my own company, RV Education 101. We produce educational videos, DVDs and e-books on how to use and maintain your RV. The reason I left my job was due to my concern about the lack of educational and safety awareness material available to the RV consumer, in other words, you. We are a small company.
