Leaving Illinois in the winter for a long week down in the Tip of Texas was very nice. We had a 18 inch Christmas Tree which we set up and our 12 year old son enjoyed the weather and Santa came.
We spent 3 Christmas's down there and now winter in AZ, every Christmas.

In the 80's, when my parents were still with us, we spent several Christmas weeks fishing on Vicente Gurrero in Northern Mexico. I remember Christmas morning 1983 was so cold you had to put your fishing pole under water to keep the line from freeing in the line guides!

Of course that was when the roads close to the border were a lot safer to travel! Don't think I will be doing that again in the near future.

Four years ago we left Nova Scotia and picked up our relatives and their RV in Ont. and left for an 8 month trip across Canada and down the west coast of the US. We planned ahead to have an RV park near Phoenix (Florence) which we searched out because they had a small motel unit on site, so that our kids and families could come down from all over Canada to stay with us for Christmas. We had 14 people (incl. one 6 month old) and had Christmas dinner on 3 picnic tables put together with the food on another 2 buffet style). The turkey we cooked in the oven of one of the motel units.
We decorated all the cacti around the 2 RV's with Santa hats and lights, as well as in and on the RV's themselves. We had brought a collapsible Christmas tree with us. We drove to the Grand Canyon and had a tailgate lunch there on New Year's Eve and a dinner at the nearby hotel that evening.
I was a very fun time, especially being shared with the families, so was almost like home. It certainly was an experience none of the us will soon forget (except for the baby!... and at least they will see the photos!).

We have spent Christmas in our RV for the past 26 years and every holiday I decorate big time for Christmas - Our luxor MH overflows with abundant lights. Frequently I win first prize for my decor within the park. Peggi. rvliving.net

Thanks for all the great comments. We will leave for Plano, Texas 12/12 in our motorhome. We plan to spend Christmas away from home for the very first time so this will be a new experience. Out to buy a small artificial tree to decorate with. Will let you know if this will be a reoccuring trip. Like the idea of inviting the family from several states to share the holiday and spreading out over numerous picnic tables. The only bad part will be returning home to chilly northern Michigan after New Years!!!!
